This crazy cake pokes sweet fun at Santa getting stuck in the chimney. This is a fun project for the whole family to make together with Duff Goldman by Gartner Studios baking and decorating products.
45 minutes + BAKING TIME / LEVEL: EASY/INTERMEDIATE
Bake a Duff red velvet cake in a 9″ x 13″ inch cake pan, following package directions. Remove from pan when cool, then freeze the cake. If frozen the next steps become much easier. Cut the cake into 3″ squares, then cut each square horizontally into fourths using a sharp serrated knife.
Using a pastry bag, pipe white icing between each of the four layers, stacking as you go. Next, pipe vertical lines to complete the vertical brick pattern. Top off the chimney with additional white icing and sprinkle with coconut if desired for a snowy effect.
Mold Santa’s legs and feet using Duff colored fondant in red and black, then insert the feet into the top of the chimney. We made the white trim on Santa’s boots with a slice of a small white gumdrop. White fondant would also work well.
